Copy of speech given by Mr. Li

The BCCI, with Sanlam as the main sponsor, held a very successful business luncheon on the 4th of July.

The Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Johannesburg delivered the main address. He impressed everyone with his sincerity and his compassion for prioritizing trade relations with Bloemfontein and the Free State.

A few trade delegations have already visited the city with a keenness to engage with local businesses in mutual investment and trade opportunities. Sectors they are interested in investing are the building sector (amongst others the construction of a cement plant), the automotive sector (manufacturing of a family car), solar power and other energy saving devices and new innovative and energy-efficient technology with regard to a number of fields (including CCTV surveillance, infrared and other wireless alarm systems, digital video recording, etc) and tourism.

The Consul General of the People's Republic of China, Mr. Fang Li.

These were some of the specialized areas discussed, but there are also interest in more general areas like furniture, clothes & shoe and other commodities.

From the side of the BCCI, the relationship with Mr Fang Li is handled by the president, Mr Moss Motshumi and the vice-president, Ms Nancy de Sousa.

At the luncheon on his part in a speech, Mr Thabo Manyoni said priority sectors earmarked by the municipality for development include, amongst others, a cement factory, motor assembly plants, an international call centre and property development.

Ms Nancy de Sousa from BCCI will follow up the contact with the Chinese Consul General by visits to the Consulate. The first one will be in mid-August.

All this reflects the impressive business and economic opportunities for Bloemfontein, Mangaung and the Free State as a whole.
